Monday Night Success
What can I say? It is time to give Chilly some kudos. We finally saw the kicka** offense we have been hearing about for years. I still don’t agree with the secret squirrel strategy of hiding the offense but he proved yesterday that the plays are in the playbook. It appears it has just been a matter of having the QB to execute and, this year, biding his time to unleash the offense.
We were getting receivers open in space and the line played great – at least pass blocking. It appeared the Pack was 100% focused on stopping AP. Case in point – on the play that Favre had about 7.5 seconds in the pocket AP released in the right flat and 3 Packers followed him leaving 2 rushing with 5 or 6 Vikings linemen blocking. That is putting the offense in position to succeed.
About Favre – what a difference he makes……I don’t know about you but, for me, the feeling on third and long, on third downs in the red zone etc. the feeling is totally different. No fear, less worry – rather – a feeling that he is going to come through and make it happen. I call it confidence and if I feel it as a fan then the whole team has to feel it and so must the opponent. That is how you break their will and deliver time after time.
Another difference with Favre at the helm – on 2nd and 10 or so from our 2 we throw deep. If it hits – great, you have a huge play. If it doesn’t you know Favre can deliver on 3rd and long. And he did. Same late in the game when we had 3rd and short when we were trying to put the game away and run out the clock. A bit of a risk going long and not burning more time but it is a calculated risk – one worth taking with Favre, a great D and a punter who had been pinning them deep. It didn’t work out but I can’t rip the call – even if the ESPN announcers did. That is playing to win and not to lose. We have been begging for that since Chilly arrived.
One final comment on the play calling – loved the Rice flee flicker. It didn’t work out but it was a great call…and – Rice did not force it and make a big mistake. Great discipline.
In closing – Jarod Allen – TOTAL STUD. Enough said.
SKOL VIKINGS!!!!!
